Lesson One, Affirmations

Your probably familiar with the concept that we are body, mind and spirit.  All connected in such a way that each influences the behavior of the other parts as they are in essence all one.  So if we don't take care of our physical body, it will affect our mind and spirit.  If we don't stimulate our brain, then it will affect our spirit and body.

I'm a big fan of Benjamin Franklin and one of his thoughts was that we need to have moderation in life.  Everything in moderation.  Another way is to say balance.  So we do what's good for our body (exercise, stretching, getting only moderate amounts of sun, eating right).  For our mind we read and learn new things and look on the positive side of life and for our spirit we meditate and contemplate the higher side of life.  Never going overboard on one or the other.

And here's where affirmations come in.  If we are out of balance, due to too much work or other factors in our lives.  We first acknowledge them as we can never change if we are not aware of our imbalances, then we use methods for changing those imbalances through various methods.

Affirmations are a good way to start re-programming ourselves.  I've added a link for a good website on affirmations so check it out.  You probably remember the most popular one, "I'm getting better and better everyday in every way".  And that's a darn good one.

You'll learn a lot more about them by going to the AFFIRMATION website but for now you should have a basic understanding of how they work.  An affirmation begins to reset your body/mind/spirit to be on the same wavelength.  You see, everything you do each day, like being mad over some issue at work, getting upset with traffic, in other words, every thought you have throughout the day both positive and negative are sending affirmations of what you believe into your subconscious, mind and spirit and affects your body as well.

So lets start re-programming that mind in the right direction.  One way is to print an affirmation on a card and read it each time you look at yourself in the mirror when getting ready each morning.

Here are some examples of some great affirmations from the website I've linked to above:

Books, Books, Books

One of the first resources for a Spiritual journey should be books or a good spiritual leader.  But if your just starting out, how do you know which Spiritual leader will be right for you?  I believe a spiritual leader will arrive when one if ready.  Until you find yours, let me at least provide you with some great books that will aid you in in own Spiritual Search.

I'll provide a side bar fairly soon listing all the books I would recommend.  But for now, I'll just list a beginning list right here.

  • Edgar Cayce, A Sleeping Profit.  By Jess Stern

  • Many Mansions:  The Edgar Cayce story on Reincarnation.  By Gina Cerminara

  • Don't Fall off the Mountain.  By Shirley MacLaine

  • You Can Get there From Here.  By Shirley MacLaine

  • Out on a Limb.  By Shirley MacLaine

  • Dancing in the Light.  By Shirley MacLaine

A Spiritual Journey

I plan to make this site a site that will explore my Spiritual Journey and how I got to the place I am currently in. I'm hoping it will be a resource for your own Spiritual Journey and provide some aids to your own search.
